When it's cold outside

Hello lovelies! I know I have been absent {see here}. I'm still sorting out a work life balance right now. Recently, we got a lot of snow. I mean, A LOT! We had a snow day last week! So while I spent most of the day being productive and focused, I did sneak off to go sledding with friends. It was fantastic. I highly recommend adult sledding.

Over the weekend I went thrifting and out to lunch for Thai food. Who else loves Thai? So. Delicious. And I faithfully instagramed the entire experience. You know, so I can seem much cooler than I actually am! Oh, are you intrigued? See my instagram here.

Hello lovelies! First of all, thank you for the incredible support on my last post. I'm still going to be focusing on some of my life goals for a while, but I thought I'd check in and share some of my instagram photos.

Over the holidays, my Droid 2 stopped working and it was time for a change. Lucky for me, Boyfriend thought a new Iphone would be a great early birthday gift {thank you, Boyfriend!}! Hello lovelies! It is Friday! Somehow this week both flew and dragged by all at once. Have you ever experienced that? My Friday confession today is that I don't drink enough water. Ever. I really do need to be better about it. Water is refreshing and is obviously so great for my body. I find that working at a desk and being in many meetings isn't conducive to drinking water regularly throughout the day.

Well, that is about to change. My friend and I are doing the 60 liter challenge. {Okay,we made it up}. We'll be drinking 60 liters of water {or tea} by the end of January. Yesterday wasn't so great, but I am doing well so far today!

Why tea? Well, it is winter and my office is super cold, so drinking water sometimes isn't pleasant. However, a nice hot tea that I can easily refresh throughout the day helps me to stay warm and hydrated all day.

Hello lovelies! The holidays have come and gone. What a whirlwind adventure the past few weeks have been! The next thing I knew, we were ringing in the New Year. Hello, 2012! I hope that your upcoming year shines brightly.

Every winter, I experience weathered skin. I've tried many products with little improvement. This year, I decided to use coconut oil {this one}. After using it daily for a couple weeks, I must say that my skin feels soft and happy. I still have a few flakey areas, but the difference is noticeable. With continued use, I hope to look like the gorgeous model above.

Hello lovelies! As you know, I met Boyfriend's parents over Veteran's Day weekend {holy smokes, time flies!}. They were funny and kind. I would consider it a success! We met for dinner, then returned to their home for a tour.

I have to tell you, I was nervous. I haven't "met the parents" in a very long time, considering that my last relationship was long term. I consider the relationship with Boyfriend's family to be very important, as they are important to him.

Their reactions? They later told him that they found me to be lovely and delightful. WIN.

Hello lovelies! I mentioned last week that I am too overwhelmed by my own wardrobe at the moment. For various reasons of life, I've accumulated pieces that just don't work anymore {I'm talking to you strappy, party wear!}.
Lately, the idea of a minimalist closet and living space appeals to me. I want to get to the point where I own less, but I use what I own. I'm not really afraid of wearing the same pieces over and over again, as long as those pieces are special in some way.
What I struggle with is that the minimialist athsetic appeals to me, but I also love romantic details. I'm working on incorporating the sentiments of both minimalist and romantic to have a functional wardrobe.

Cluttered.

Lately I've been having the "my closet is full of clothing, yet I have nothing to wear" syndrome. Maybe it has something to do with having gained a bit of weight over the past year so clothes don't fit like they once did. Maybe I just have too much stuff that I don't use regularly enough. To be honest, I need to dedicate my time to editing my closet.

Since I started blogging, I have significantly increased my wardrobe. Blogging was supposed to be inspirational for me, but it turned into a force that drive consumerism for me. I need to strike a good balance of appreciating the things I have, enjoying the options out there, and NOT over consuming. Blogging can create a desire to be overcome with fast-food type fashion.

It is time for me to get back to the roots my blog: I want to focus on meticulously editing my personal style while interacting with and being inspired by other bloggers. Watch out closet, I'll be making some cuts.

Thanksgiving is over, so I can safely start thinking about Christmas presents, right? I have to tell you, I need help thinking of the perfect gift for Boyfriend. He is so kind and pleasant that no one thing seems to be lacking from his life. While he would appreciate any gift, I'd like the present to be special. He loves technology {though my budget is too tight for that this year}, Reddit, J. Crew, and music. This is the kind of man who has pretty much everything he needs and usually purchases what he wants. Sarah and I have talked about, for the man who has everything, getting an "experience" such as concert tickets or a weekend. Being long distance makes fulfilling any given "experience" difficult to do together. I'm considering pocket squares {yes, he wears them! Be still my heart!} and having his initials embroidered on them.

Hello lovelies! There are certain iconic brands that I expect to rarely ever see in person. Hermes is certainly on that list. While flying home last week, an older woman sitting beside me asked me to help her tie the drawstring on her sleeve. As I assisted her, I couldn't help but notice this beautiful bracelet decorating her slender wrist. I heard bits and pieces about her life through conversation, but my imagination has filled in the rest. She grew up in California, married a man from Germany and moved there with him. Now she returns to visit her brothers, sisters and parents for a month out of the year. My imagination has given her a glamorous life to match this chic leather bracelet, but I'll leave the rest of the story up to your own.

Meet Boyfriend.. Part II

Yes, I didn't quite finish the story of how this guy and I created an "our story" {see here}. Read on if interested!...

My response to his attempt? "How long did it take you to come up with that one?" My cold shut down was followed by me attempting to walk away despite his pleas that he was serious. I reached the area that my friends were in and told him that if he wanted to pay the cover charge to come in too, then he was welcome to do so. This was stated in a way that certainly wasn't an invitation.

{He says he isn't much of a golfer, but he indulges his dad from time to time}

Can you believe it? This guy did just that! He paid the cover and followed me in.

Despite my chilly disposition, he won over my friends with his wit and intelligence. Jill turned to me and whispered, "Hey, he is funny! I kinda like this guy!" With her blessing, my resolve was lowered and I started to give him a chance.

Next thing I knew, it was 7am and we'd stayed up all night talking on my friend's porch. I was a bit embarassed about my earlier behavior when I thought he was a skivey bar guy. He came back later that evening for a barbecue and we talked all night again. On my last day in the city, he skipped work to spend time with me and volunteered to take me to the airport.

Now here we are, nearly 5 months later visiting, when we can and doing meet and greets with our families. It's our own little fairytale.

Hello lovelies! I never did get around to posting on "our story." Since I am meeting his family soon, now is a great time to share with you all. For a closer look into how this all got started, follow the jump!

Back in June, I was visiting some good friends from college in D.C. It was wonderful to see them in person again and to catch up on their fantastic adventures. A few days into the trip, we got to talk about romantic relationships. I made it clear that I was uninterested in being in anything serious for a while.

That night we found ourselves out to see a local band at a fun bar. I was particularly drawn to the space because it had a rooftop level that was open to the night sky. The weather was perfect. While making my way through the crowded rooftop, I said "Excuse me" as I brushed past a handsome stranger. My first thought was "He is attractive. He must be a jerk." I rejoined my friends and we soon made our way to the band one level down. Once inside, I excused myself to use the restroom. Next thing I knew, that jerk I saw earlier was standing behind me in line trying to make small talk about the germs from the bathrooms. I was not amused and quickly entered the first one available.

He stopped me on my way out and said, "I just have to tell you this. You are the most beautiful woman I have laid eyes on."

In the air

Let's face it, traveling can really take the wind out of your sails, especially when your travel includes flying. I do what I can to plan ahead for a day full of flight by keeping some essentials with me. They always come in handy.

1: A decent sized tote or weekender. You want something that is large enough to store your essentials, but not so oversized that it slows you down when racing through the airport to catch your layover flight.

2: A rich facial moisturizer, preferably with SPF. Not only is the air very drying on a plane, but you are much closer to the sun and its harmful rays. I always put some on about 30 minutes before take off and am looking refreshed by landing.

3: A vibrant scarf. I tend to wear basic colors and clothing. The scarf adds some dimension to my outfit while also doubling as a blanket during the drastic temperature changes in the cabin.

4: A cozy knit cardigan. It can be layered and unlayered as needed. It also doesn't get in the way and can be stored in your tote when not in use.

5: Magazines. I rarely ever buy magazines, however I do allow myself the indulgence when flying. It has become something of a ritual in my travel routine.

6: Fluffy socks. Whatever the weather, cozy, fluffy socks are a way to keep your feet pampered during flight. It is a welcomed break from running around airports! Other passengers may eye you suspiciously as you slip them on. Make no mistake. That look in their eyes? Jealousy.

Hello lovelies! I have an upcoming trip to the Capital! D.C. is one of my favorite cities. Every time I go is a new adventure {see here and here}. It is full of culture, good food, amazing museums, and is home to my Sweetheart {hello, Boyfriend!}. In all honesty, I'll probably be spending little time actually in the city. Hello lovelies! I took a leave of absence from the blog temporarily because my schedule became quite hectic. We are back to our regularly scheduled programming.

When I was contacted by eShakti to review a dress, I was delighted! I'd read reviews by other bloggers and all the feedback was positive.

I selected the Edge piped trim sheath dress because I loved the vibrant raspberry color and the structured fit. My work wardrobe needed a touch of color and this was just the dress to fit the bill!

The midi length is a big sell for me. The fabric was high quality and strong. Unfortunately, the zipper was defective and broke after my second time trying it on. I hadn't read anything similar in other reviews, so I am assuming that is a fluke.

The website was easy to navigate and I appreciate that their mission is to provide clothing that is custom to the purchaser. Each dress comes with different options for length, sleeve cut and neckline. You can even submit your measurements to have your item custom tailored to you.

Overall, my experience with eShakti was good. Their new draped clothing for fall looks beautiful. I am disappointed about the zipper, but I am fairly sure it is a fluke and I am checking with customer service.

Wow, it is Friday again! Holy smokes! It is Halloween weekend. My confession? I don't usually do anything for Halloween.. Hello lovelies! Another Friday has come again! What do I love about Fridays? The possibilities of relaxed evenings and sleeping in, teddy grahams and Criminal Minds {okay, this was how I USED to spend my Friday evenings until I decided not to pay for television}, and the closure of hectic weeks.

This Friday, I must confess that, while I love my hour glass figure, it is difficult to dress it and it isn't photogenic. I love my curves and my small waist. I look killer in bandage and wrap dresses. I feel womanly and strong. But with the relaxed fits and shapeless styles that are oh so popular right now, I might as well be wearing a paper sack.

Hello lovelies! Hope you are having a fabulous Wednesday. For me, Wednesdays usually are comprised of morning hours researching for my practicum, afternoons in meetings and evenings in night class. Hello lovelies! I hope you all had a refreshing weekend. Though mine was mostly filled with work, I did get to enjoy my normal Sunday Breakfast {the brunch that I host} and had time to make soup for my lunches this week.

With the seasons changing, my skincare regime is involving moisture rich products to keep my skin healthy. I noticed that my makeup bag is full of these rose tinted lip balms. All of these products get used on something of a rotation basis and feel incredible {like a 30 second spa for my lips!}.

Boyfriend!

Some of you have requested pictures of my seldom mentioned boyfriend. After getting his consent {of course!}, I selected a few photos that I hope not only show what he looks like, but a bit of his personality as well. We've been together for a few months now. In addition to being {obviously} handsome, he is incredibly bright, funny, and kind. He is constantly surprising me with his thoughtfulness.

Also, he is rather dapper and typically well tailored.

For the sake of Boyfriend's privacy, I won't be posting much identifying information about him. Though there may come a time when I tell the how we met story. It involves me being rude to him for a solid hour before realizing he might be a nice man.. Lucky for me, he found it endearing.

Perfect pairing; fall and soup

Hello lovelies! How was your weekend? Mine was bursting with activity. For the past 7 months, I have served as the faculty adviser for a student organization. They were preparing a large conference for students. It took place over this past weekend! I am so proud of their hard work and how smoothly it went. Barely a hiccup! Pretty good for their first time.

Between sessions and my presentations, I noticed something outside. Leaves on the ground and a chill in the air. Fall is here not only by calender, but in spirit as well. I spent Sunday afternoon cooking up a batch of vegetable soup {recipe here} to have for lunches this week. There is nothing like a hearty soup to pair with crisp fall air. I'm so looking forward to the soups I'll be preparing from now until spring! {Think pumpkin, it is next on the list.}

As a child I always admired beautifully made up women with gorgeous lip color. My mom had a meticulous make up routine and lipstick played an integral role. In college, I was part of a performance group and red lipstick was required as performance wear. I've openly admitted that I love wearing the red lip, however I do suffer from having to create occasions for it in my sleepy town.

When I graduated from college, I came across this fancy pair of Italian made suede and snakeskin pumps. At the time it was the most expensive pair of shoes I owned {and still are near the top of that category}. They were so fancy and sultry, I just couldn't resist. I was proud of my academic accomplishments after working my way through school and this pretty pair has been a satisfying reward. You know, in addition to gainful full time employment, acceptance into graduate school, and me finding my life's passion.

Kitchen adventure; sugar infusions

Hello lovelies! I had all too much fun making vanilla extract {see here}, vanilla maple syrup, and vanilla sugar. It might be vanilla overload.. It got me thinking about a variety of infused sugars that would be great gifts as well as interesting ingredients to have around the kitchen. With some researching {read: googling}, other fantastic infusions such as citrus and clove crossed my radar. Maybe I will be taking this DIY holiday gifts thing to the next level with a variety of sugar infusions...

What you need:

*vanilla beans {can be fresh or dry}

*a container that can seal

My containers could fit a cup of sugar, so I used three fresh vanilla beans. Slice the bean pods tip to tip, leaving one end still attached. Layer the vanilla and sugar in your container. Let your sugar infuse at least one week before use.

A way to make it more potent? After letting the sugar infuse and allowing the bean pods to dry in the sugar, blend all contents of the container in a food processor until the bean pod is nearly the size of the sugar. Allow more time for infusion.

Hello lovelies! It is nearly the weekend. I don't know about you, but this one is coming just on time, if not a tad on the fashionably late side..

For this week's confession, I must admit that I had wine on a school night! *gasp* It really isn't such a big deal, however I rarely drink alcohol in the first place so to partake in a glass midweek is out of the ordinary for me. I'd much rather spend my calorie intake on cupcakes and brownies. Very mature, I know.

Hello lovelies! How was your weekend? Enjoying the last wisps of summer? While I am very ready for fall weather, I know little time will pass until I am longing for summer heat again.

When Sarah was here last week, we went shopping and it was the first time I'd been in a while. Needless to say, I came home with a few more goodies than I probably should have. One of them being this wonderful wristlet/clutch. I don't want to make a habit of composing my 100 with new items; however the use I have gotten out of this since its purchase warrants space on the list! It is the perfect size and shape for my use. I also appreciate the detailed seaming and luxurious leather. It is understated yet still has a presence.

My 100; vintage dress {part 2}

Last week, I posted on the vintage dress I picked up in DC. I managed to snap a couple of outfit shots of it. The thing is, I'm still not all that comfortable with outfit posts. Again, I love reading them on other blogs, but I'm not so positive that mine are all that special. Anyway, I do love this dress and it is part of the 100. This is a much appreciated piece in my wardrobe that can be worn alone, with skinny jeans or wide leg trousers. It is good with a cardi and can stand up under a blazer. If I had multiples of this, I'd be one happy Lisa.

Kitchen adventure; vanilla extract

In May, I came across recipes on some of my favorite food blogs for homemade vanilla extract. With the frequency that I go through it, I decided I should try my hand at the "home brew" version. It also dawned on me that while making some for my personal stock, I could easily make more for holiday or hostess gifts. It seemed simple enough. After a few months of "meaning to get to that", I finally ordered the vanilla.

What you need:

*Vanilla beans {fresh are preferred}

*liquor {vodka, bourbon, or brandy will work}

*a container that can seal {I used 8 oz. Ball jars}

The ratio:

*3 plump vanilla beans or 5 scrawny ones per cup of liquor

The technique:

*Cut the bean length wise, leaving the slightly curled end attached.

*Place in container.

*Repeat until you have enough beans in the jar. Cover with the liquor.

*Shake!

*Put in a cool, dark place and shake once a week. After letting it infuse for 2 months, VANILLA EXTRACT!

Other variations you could try are flavored liquors or simply throwing a bunch of beans into the liquor bottle. In 2 months, I'll share the outcome. Also, I'll do a posts on vanilla sugar and vanilla infused maple syrup. You know, since I have all this vanilla around..

Childhood best friend! Sarah and I have been best friends since we were 7 years old. I cannot tell you how kind, thoughtful, intelligent, and independent this lady is! She is a true lady and has a knack for caring for others. Lucky for me, despite being such an amazing person, she still wants to be my best friend. If you'd like to visit her blog {go here}.

And what is even better? She is visiting me in Washington as I type! Though life has given us physical separation {she lives in Indiana}, we have a strong bond that the trials of distance cannot shake.

My 100; vintage dress

Hello lovelies! How did you spend you spend your weekend? I had an extremely relaxing one; maybe the last of its kind for a while.

It has been a while since I have posted about my 100 pieces. The series was inspired by Nina Garcia's book 100. Basically, it helps remind me that I already own pieces I love as well as it gives me a picture of what I tend to buy {so that I avoid buying too many repeat items}.

While in DC in June, I went to vintage store that had a handful of knit dresses by Robert P. Miller. I bought one and since have regretted leaving the others behind! Maybe when I go back in November, I'll see if they have any left {they won't, but a gal can dream}.

If you have been reading my blog for long, you know my obsession with stripes. I seriously could not own enough. I even mix my stripes {striped top with a striped cardi over top? No problem!}. The knit is so comfortable and might I add, forgiving as well. While in DC, I couldn't help but wear it right away. It was part of a lovely evening I shared with Boyfriend when he took me to Alexandria for dinner and boat watching. I also like wearing it as a tunic over wide leg trousers.

New season, new goals

Hello lovelies! Back in May I wrote {this post} to help myself stay on track with my goals. A lot of changes happened in my life over the summer so my list had to shift with those opportunities. I accomplished several and still have a few to work on. With the return of students and the start of classes {my last classes before my thesis semester!}, I feel a yearning to establish my goals for fall. It just feels better when I have a game plan, even if that plan has to be flexible as life happens. I am approaching this list with enthusiasm! If there is one thing I have learned over the past year, it is to choose to enjoy life despite adversity. Here goes my list:

*Visit from my best friend, Sarah: She is coming for a visit over Labor Day weekend. She has been such a special influence in my life and I can't imagine my life without her. We keep getting older and life brings us more opportunities/challenges. As we both strive for our life goals, I can't help but feel like maybe this is the last time I'll get her all to myself. It is bittersweet as I know our blossoming lives are only getting better, but a part of me wants us to go back to when we'd hold hands walking down the street as 7 year old small town girls.

*Thesis proposal: This needs to happen by mid October. I need to be diligent. I did not even come close to finishing this goal for the summer. Enough said.

*Classes in general: As a part time student, full time professional, my classes get tossed on the back burner a lot. So far, I have done fairly well in my courses, but I know I'm not "reaching my potential". This semester, I am going to be better about dedicating the time needed to feel good about my work.

*Fitness: I want to work out 3 times a week. No matter how busy it gets, I can dedicate time for my health.

*Work: With my new job and responsibilities, I have a lot of learning to do. I want to meet those challenges, learn what I can, and do the best I can while loving what I do. There is a strong possibility that I'll be job searching in the spring so this is an important resume building year.

*Life documentation: I want to be better about taking photos of my life. I also want to be better at taking care of the blog.

*D.C.: Again, I love that city. It helps that my sweetheart is out there.. My tickets are booked for November!

*Wardrobe: I need to edit my closet. Lately, I've been feeling more a bit more minimalist. I own things that don't fit well, aren't holding up and aren't practical for my life. It is time to donate and discard!

*Monthly chats: Another bestie of mine {Hi, Jordan!} and I try to communicate as regularly as possible with our busy schedules and time zone differences. We decided we'd have monthly chats on the phone. This needs to be something I make a priority!

It's Friday, lovelies! I hope you all the perfect weekend plans. In the mean time, we've all got a bit of confessing to do. Between working, finishing my summer class {thank goodness that is over} and just trying to be a human, I have neglected the blog a bit. There are some details I have left out. In part, this happened because of my insane schedule, but I also didn't want to share too much about my budding relationship because it was so new.

If you remember {this post} I confessed to be seeing a special someone. Well, we are in a relationship, but not seeing much of each other at all. The last thing I thought I would add to my plate is a long distance relationship; however our chemistry is undeniable. He makes me laugh all of the time, is extraordinarily supportive {he definitely had the chance to demonstrate that this past month} and treats me with such respect.

While I would love to be closer to him, this distance actually hasn't been a burden on our relationship. He is in Washington DC and I am in Washington state. We met while I was there visiting friends in June. Maybe I'll explain "our story" in another post; it was unlikely yet here we are.

So there you have it. Lucky for me, he is coming to visit this weekend! It will be so nice to have him here for a few days and I couldn't be happier about it.

Back to school.. for adults..

On Monday, classes will be back in session for my university. I have been vigorously preparing for the return of the students. As a hobbiest/graduate student, this means I'll be tackling course work in my spare time. This means that I get to think about back to school clothes, right? The mood board above collects most of my fall requests; the striped shirt, a fun pant, a beautiful bag.. You get the idea. While this semester will be incredibly challenging, I can't wait for it to start! Maybe because I'll hopefully finish my degree in May and then I can get "started" with my real life, maybe because this summer has been insane and I am clinging to the hope that it is nearly complete, maybe because I love sweaters and I can't wait to wear them regularly..

My confession is that I finally bought a humidifier. I resisted because they are so expensive, but eastern Washington is DRY. After two days of use, I am kicking myself for not buying it earlier. I'm even considering a second for my office since I spend much of my waking hours there. I know, it isn't fabulous or sexy {hey baby, check out my super sweet humidifier right by the bed..}, but getting nose bleeds on command is less fabulous and less sexy than that.

Hello lovelies! Life has been happening again and I've left the blog to squander. I don't feel too guilty because I am grateful that I have a life that I am so interested in living! Do you ever look back and think, 'Wow, I am really here"? It is an awesome feeling.

Hello lovelies! I'm guilty of a couple of things recently.. One of those things being very absent as my life has gotten so busy.. I know, every other post says that. Work has been intense and I've been taking an intense 3 week/3 hour a day class. As soon as I (finish) turn in my project tomorrow, it will be done!

I own and adore a pair of Uggs. Now, let me be clear: I did not pay full price and I do not wear them in public. We have all been traumatized by women wearing them with sweats or seeing them walk on the slouchy sides of them in the snow. Those mental images are exactly why I avoided them for so long.

About a month ago, I happened across a pair at Nordstrom Rack for around $60.00. I tried them on and they feel like being a part of a cuddle puddle. So they came home with me. Now I use them when walking around my apartment as a glorified pair of slippers. They are the best slippers I have ever owned. They are perfect for chilly mornings and lounging in the evenings.

Rest assured, I will never become "that girl" with them. Ever.

Hello lovelies! It has been extremely busy here. I've been working long days and attending a summer course for 3 hours a day. This has meant far too many Hot Pocket lunches and missing my dates with the gym.

My Friday confession is that I did laundry on Sunday.. and it all remains folded in the basket since I have failed to put any of it away yet.. At least I took the time to fold..

I've been seriously considering getting a housekeeper for once a week or every other week. Has anyone ever had someone else come in to tidy up their home? What was it like?

Parisian Chic; summer reading

I know, I am far behind on reading this book, much less posting on it (my goodness the beautiful pictures!). While I am kicking myself for taking so long to read it, I did enjoy it as my travel companion over the weekend. It was so very French; giving just enough information while still maintaining a mystique. I suppose if I ever really want to be a Parisian gal, I'll just have to spend a considerable amount of time there.

Of course the fashion, beauty, and city advice was spot on. What I particularly was drawn to, however, was the brief section on entertaining. Ines' simplistic way of cooking with what is in season and serving the food once guests are actually hungry appeals to me. I already try to use in season fruits and vegetables, but I find myself slaving in the kitchen with the aim of completing the main dish upon arrival of the guests. It may be a cultural thing, but I seem to have gotten into the habit of having the main course nearly ready so that guests are served relatively quickly after arrival.

This tactic has left me tied up in the kitchen, not necessarily able to enjoy the company of those who I invited! Next time, I'll set out simple appetizers and let something bake so that I can easily and gracefully spend time with my close ones. But of course! It is time to simplify.

My 100; Salt Lake City silk

It is no secret that while I travel I enjoy picking up textile souvenirs. Some of my favorite additions to my wardrobe have come from random adventures across the country. When I moved from Indiana to Washington I took a long journey from Indy to Omaha to Denver to Salt Lake City to my current city. After spending the night in Salt Lake City, I was exploring the town a bit and saw this silk dress. I knew instantly that it was moving to my new home with me. It is a multi-way wear dress that helps the noticeable pattern transition freshly from event to event. I feel so pretty in this dress and it reminds me of my amazing journey to the Northwest.

Hopefully, I'll get to catch up on all my favorite reads soon!

Life or something like it; apartment saga

Hello lovelies! I am officially moved into the new apartment! My furniture all came/was retrieved yesterday. Only one mishap and I consider it a success. The mishap stemmed from one table in the bed of a truck with no strap mixed with a sharp turn... I'm pretty sure there was also a gust of wind {haha}. And now it gets to be more of a DIY project than I had anticipated, but honestly, it is going to turn out just as well. I believe it.

Hello lovelies! Have you tried Pinterest yet? It is similar to weheartit, but allows for a more useful flexibility in contributing photos. I have had far too much fun categorizing and "pinning"... It is also a great way to avoid on line shopping. My favorite part? Lately, I've had home decor on the brain and it has been feeding my need for ideas!

The cons so far? You have to sign up with your Facebook or Twitter account. It keeps that anonymous nature some of us bloggers prefer from being possible. It is part of why I won't link my Pinterest account with my blog. I'm fine with friends from the blog being my Facebook friends; however I am not necessarily jumping at the idea of having my Facebook friends all know about the blog. The server also gets bogged down. I think they have had increased traffic and popularity, but their tech support is still trying to catch up.

My 100; LBD

{Beware; old picture!}

This LBD makes my 100 list because it can be dressy {I wore it to my brother's wedding rehearsal dinner} and casual {laid back belt and flat sandals do the trick}. Either way it is so comfortable and I feel fabulous in it. This is an old picture that makes me miss my long hair {and svelte legs!}. Spring semester was not so kind on my hair or my figure. Working on both!

You may see some old photos I have on stock as I am still dealing with the transition.. I'll keep you posted!

Kitchen adventure; s'more cookie

Hello lovelies! After perusing Pinterest and seeing a delicious looking photo of a s'more cookie, I burst out the door to the store so I could recreate my own version.

What you need:

*Chocolate chip cookie dough (either store bought or your own recipe)

*Chocolate chips or chocolate bar

*Marshmellow creme

*Ramekins

Pre-heat oven at 350F. Grease your ramekins. Put a layer of cookie dough in the ramekin. Layer chocolate chips or bars. I prefer chips because they can be distributed more easily. Next, layer marshmellow creme. This can be difficult to spread, so heat it up first. Last, top with another layer of cookie dough. Bake for 25-30 minutes.

***Things that can be done differently, but I haven't tried? After first 2 layers, put in oven for 10 minutes to allow cookie dough to bake a bit.

When done baking, transfer from ramekin to serving dish. Allow to cool, despite temptation to consume immediately!!!

This week's confession? With an upcoming move to an apartment that hasn't been leased {eeek} and the only furniture I own being a book rack and record player, I am afraid I am going to be living like this! This was an unexpected promotion and an unexpected move therefore my emergency cash fund is completely going towards the security deposit, first, and last months rent. So if I have to stand up while eating my yogurt in the morning for a while, so be it.

Color combinations: navy, tan, and crimson

There is something about this combination of colors that makes me feel chic. I probably wear some variation of it several times a week. It is fresh and, to me, never dulls. As I revamp my work wardrobe for my new role, this combination will be on my shopping list. I am imagining navy pants and skirts, crimson and tan dresses and tops, and fun accessory accents. Maybe I'll be lucky enough to pick up a couple of these items before my D.C. trip at the end of the month.. maybe..

Breton top II

Hello lovelies! Over the weekend, we had a spell of beautiful weather. This meant light and comfortable attire, as well as that touch of sunburn to my vanilla cupcake complexion. Things are finally starting to look like summer around here.

It is a bit of a mediocre outfit, at best, but I know I've been neglectful of them. Most of my belongings are in boxes as I am moving soon. Forgive the boring, yet breezy outfit!

The bag was a purchase I made after I was given a sizable discount offer... I love the structure and subtly of it. It is my career woman bag.

Herbalife Herbal Aloe body wash; a product review

This is going to be a two post review. This post will cover the body wash, the next will review the companion lotion. It has been sometime since I have done a product review. After a recent sunburn, I was reminded how essential this body wash {and the lotion} are to my pearly skin.

The pros: That first shower after a burn is always the worst! The water is never the right temperature and my normal body wash is too harsh. I received this as a gift from my parents last summer and used it every burn since! The scent is light and clean. It lathers well and is hydrating. It is nice to treat my skin to aloe with both body wash and lotion following the abuse of the elements.

The cons: It must be purchased from an Herbalife representative {like Mary Kay}. If any of you are interested, I know one personally!

The overall: I will definitely be purchasing this when I run out. With my sensitive skin, I need to give it a bit extra TLC. This body wash is perfect for those moments that seem to be more common during the summer.

My 100; breton stripes

This navy and white number is from the Rodarte and Target collaboration from a while back. It is one of my most loved pieces in my wardrobe and it has gotten a lot of mileage. I wish that I'd had the foresight to pick up multiples because it is easily as comfortable as pajamas yet always looks put together. Secretly {or not so secretly}, I always aspire to look like I am walking down the streets of Paris.. Slipping into this top makes that fantasy seem all the more real.

This is a very special Friday confessions, because I have been holding out on all of you. Oh, also on everyone else! Remember {this post} when I was admitting my feelings of being overwhelmed by the upcoming academic year? I turned it over in prayer. This past week I was presented with an opportunity that I can only say was a blessing from God. I will be serving in an interim position that is a promotion from my current role.

I never imagined this as my last year as a hall director. What I can say is that, looking back, there is nothing in my approach that I would change. Of course I made mistakes, but my intention was always in the right place. I think, that it is a blessing to be able to look back and know my heart was always in it.

This upcoming year, while still slightly scary, has a different direction. It is exciting, frightening, uplifting... Crazy!

My 100; wellies

Earlier in the year, I finally decided to invest in a great pair of rain boots. While the steep price tag had deterred me for quite some time, I couldn't be happier with my Hunter's. My job has me walking over campus often so they saved the day many times during our soggy spring. In fact, it has been raining often even now {unusual for this area of Washington} and they have been just what I need. Instead of running inside to avoid the rain, I get to jump in every puddle.

Day of Remembrance

Memorial Day has a special meaning to me. Many of my family members have served in US forces and have deployed in various wars. I may not always understand or agree with the wars we wage or the tactics we use, but what I do understand is that there is honor in protecting what we as a Nation hold dear. Remembering and revering the bravery is too important to reserve for one day, but on this day, we'll do it extra.

Blogger issues

Hi all, I am experiencing some problems with Blogger. I cannot log into blogger (but can log into my gmail, etc) from my own computer. After attempting on another computer, I can log in, but cannot leave comments on others' blogs. This is happening to some other Blogger users as well. This has been going on for several days. My 100; traveling scarf

This linen H&M scarf was purchased in D.C. last summer and has been a staple for me ever since. It is expansive in width which allows me to wrap it in many ways as a scarf as well as double it is a shaw around my shoulders when needed. I love the moody floral print and is romantic and noir. When I travel, it is a constant companion. I also adore the way it bursts out of the top of my trench like a flower under my chin.

It has been fun shopping my closet for this 100 challenge. I don't need to purchase new items to appreciate what I already own. While some of my new pieces appear on the list, it is staple accessories like this scarf that are the foundation to my list. The challenge helps me to focus on and utilize the foundation pieces.

Confession on a.. Tuesday

Even though it isn't Friday, I have to admit something. The next year of my life may be the most stressful I've experienced and I am worried about it. The upcoming two months, aren't terrible, but after that, my schedule is going to be extremely demanding. With the upcoming academic year {August through May} will come more work responsibility {new hall, double the amount of staff}, continuation of grad courses, practicum, thesis, and job searching. By this time next year, if all goes well, I will have completed my 3rd year as a hall director, finished my M.A., and accepted a new position {somewhere?}. IF ALL GOES WELL.

The thing is, it could not go well. Classes aren't my concern, it is the increase in workload mixed with writing a thesis and passing my defense. With as stressed as I was this year, scrambling from task to task to class to task, I'm not confident in my ability to produce a thoughtful body of work that could resemble an acceptable thesis. No good thesis, no degree.

But Lisa, can't you finish your thesis next summer? No, I can't. The program is being phased out. I was part of the last cohort accepted. I couldn't take classes fast enough so I am stuck with my thesis being the last possible semester... If my committee rejects it, then it is nearly 3 years of effort on the line.

To be proactive, I am trying to start my thesis now. Actually, that means I need to submit my thesis proposal as soon as possible {target end of June}, then start my thesis. I also need to prep for the upcoming year of work. If there is interest, I'll describe in another post what it is that I do as a hall director. There are small things I can do in advance... But when it comes down to it, I am looking at another lonely, busy year.

Okay, back to our regularly scheduled programming.
